The Northern Kings Trail with huskies

The northern part of the Kings Trail wind through one of Sweden’s most high alpine mountain areas. Here you find Sweden’s highest peak, Kebnekaise. Our journey goes from the traditional Saltoluokta Mountain Station built 1912 north through high mountain passes to Abisko Mountain Station where the Kings Trail ends.
Day 1 – Arrival to Saltoluokta Mountain Station:
We meet and give you information about the program for the following days. Together we have a nice dinner and check the equipment.
Day 2Â - Teusajaure, at the foot of the mountain:
After breakfast we will meet the dogs, all Siberian Huskies and with different personalities. We give you instructions how to use the equipment, and with help from the guide we harness the dogs, load the sleds and make everything ready for departure. We steer west and travel along the river Stora Luleälven to Teusajaure cabin where we spend the night. Approx. 40km
The trail on the ice of the river Stora Luleälven is not always in good condition. If not we will take the dogs by car up to Stora Sjöfallet and start from there.
Day 3Â -Â Singi, by Kebnekaise:
We leave Teusajaure’s protecting birch forest and climb over the mountain to the next valley and the river Kaitumälven’s spring lakes. During the day we pass the Kaitumjaure cabins and then continue to the foot of Kebnekaise. Approx. 30km.
Day 4 - Tjäktjapasset, 1150 meters above sea level:
We follow the valley north and up to the mountain pass Tjäktja notorious among musher’s. Since we come from the south we will have a steep and very intensive uphill driving. Many are the musher’s who fear for the downhill driving from this slope. If we are lucky with the weather we will have a fantastic view south over the valley we came from. We spend the night in the Tjäktja cabin that is situated approx. 1100 meters above sea level. Approx. 25 km.
Day 5Â -Â Alesjaure and the surrounding deep valleys:
This day’s distance is very short therefore we make a detour up in one of the surrounding valleys. We can promise steep hillsides and beautiful views! In Alesjaure cabins you can enjoy the luxury of a wood heated sauna. Minimum 13km.
Day 6Â -Â Abiskojaure, the lake by the ptarmigans mountain:
We leave the open tundra and steer the dog teams down to the birch forest. During the day we will pass a rest hut called the Kings Wind shelter. This small hut was built when the Swedish king should walk parts of the Kings Trail. Approx. 25km.
Day 7Â -Â Abisko, back to civilisation:
After a calm and easy morning we harness the dogs for the last time. We leave the mountains behind us and go down to the mountain village Abisko. Here in Abisko the Kings Trail begins or ends as it will be for us. We check- in at Abisko Mountain Station were we can enjoy showers, hot sauna and eat a nice dinner in the restaurant. Approx. 20km.
Day 8Â -Â Departure day:
Breakfast and then departure from Abisko Mountain station.
