NEW! Husky adventure to the Norwegian border

Arctic adventure with dog sledding and winter camping

With just the sound of panting huskies and the swishing of the sled blending into the almost total silence you will travel with your own team of sled dogs to the border between Sweden and Norway, high up in the mountains north from the arctic circle in Swedish Lapland.
An arctic experience combining comfortable accommodation in huts and winter camping in tents.
Travel with your four-legged friends in areas outside the national parks where very few tourists go.

Day 1 – Arrival to Swedish Lapland.

We meet in Jokkmokk at p.m 14:00. Together we go by car to Ă…rrenjarka Mountain Lodge and check in to the cabins. We take care of the huskies and then eat a tasty dinner in the beautiful restaurant.

Day 2 – With the dog teams westwards.
Your first day on the sled and we steer the teams westwards up towards the Tarravalley. In the start we cross a big lake before we travel in along the Tarra river. Our first night out with the huskies will be spent in the cabin in Njunjes, approx 36 km from Ă…rrenjarka. When we reach the cabin everybody help out and take care of the dogs and carry bags into the cabin. We prepare dinner together and enjoy the evening.

Day 3 – Towards the mountain plateaus.
With the coniferous forest behind us we climb with the dog teams up from the Tarravalley. We pass the tree line on approx 700 meters above sea level. The vast wide open spaces and view expand. The destination for the day is the Vaimok hut. A distance of 30 km with a difference in altitude of 500 meters.

Day 4 – A stone´s throw from the Norwegian border.
Our dog sled adventure continues to the cabin in Pieskehaure and the Norwegian border. If it’s clear sky we will see the mountain Sulitelma that for many years was what people thought Sweden’s highest mountain. After approx 30 km behind the dog sleds we set camp. We spend the night in tents. If we don’t find water for our self and the dogs we have to melt snow on our gas stoves. After a hot dinner we tuck ourselves in our warm sleeping bags and welcome the night.

Day 5 – The spring lakes of Pite river.
We follow the spring lakes of the Pite river downwards. The route changes between different lakes and sometimes interesting passages in the birch forest. Today we head for the fishing camp in Miekak where we spend the night in a cabin. Approx 30 km.

Day 6 – East towards the woodlands.
We will still be travelling in the Pite rivers glen. Further down in the valley we will pass a church in the middle of the wilderness village Västerfjäll. If the church is open we can stop for a peek. We continue to Parkajaure where we spend a second night in our tents. Distance approx. 45 km.

Day 7 – The Pearl river nature reserve and a new valley.
We now leave the Pite rivers glen and go over to the spring lakes of the Pearl river. Here we can enjoy the old untouched pine forest. The trail is partly winding, narrow and very fun to drive but also lead us over wider bogs and lakes. With our dog teams we drive all the way to Ă…rrenjarka where we load dogs, sleds and equipment in the car and go down to Jokkmokk. We check in at Hotel Jokkmokk and eat dinner in the restaurant.

Day 8 – Farewell Lapland.
After breakfast it’s time to go home.
